Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate rebar weight?
Weight per meter = d²/162 with d in millimeters: 12²/162 ≈ 0.89 kg/m for Ø12. It comes from the nominal cross-section (πd²/4) times steel density 7,850 kg/m³ — the ribs are already included, because the nominal diameter is defined by mass.
What does B500 mean?
B = reinforcing steel, 500 = characteristic yield strength of 500 MPa. The suffix (B500A, B500B, B500C) grades ductility, with B the standard for most cast-in-place work and C required in high seismic zones. Dimensions and weights are identical across the three.
Why does delivered weight differ slightly from the table?
EN 10080 allows a mass tolerance of ±4.5% for Ø8 and larger (±6% below). Suppliers invoice by nominal weight from this table, so small scale differences on delivery are normal and expected.
How many bars are in a tonne?
Depends on the size: a tonne is 375 bars of Ø6 × 12 m, but only 8 bars of Ø40 × 12 m. The table lists the number for every size.
