Sheet metal weight follows the simplest formula in fabrication: length × width × thickness × density. What makes it worth a calculator is the density table — steel at 7,850, stainless at 8,000, aluminum at 2,700, copper at 8,930 kg/m³ — and the quick per-piece × quantity math for whole orders.
The per-square-meter shortcuts worth memorizing: steel 7.85 kg, stainless 8.0 kg, aluminum 2.7 kg — per mm of thickness. A standard 2000×1000 format sheet in 2 mm steel is 31.4 kg; the same sheet in aluminum is 10.8 kg.

How is sheet metal weight calculated?
Weight (kg) = length (m) × width (m) × thickness (mm) × density factor (kg/m² per mm). The density factor is the material density divided by 1,000: steel 7.85, aluminum 2.7, copper 8.93.
What thickness counts as plate instead of sheet?
The usual convention is that material under 6 mm is sheet and 6 mm and above is plate. The weight formula is identical — only the product name and rolling tolerances change.
